ABOUT
The Legend of Paul and Paula is considered a classic hit of DEFA cinema. Seen by millions of East Germans when it was released in 1973, the film relates the story of Paula, a single mother, and Paul, a married bureaucrat, and their struggle against the boundaries of a supposedly classless society. Featuring the music of the wildly popular rock band The Puhdys, and set against the ever-changing landscape of 1970s East Berlin, the film offers a colorful glimpse into everyday life in the GDR. The film will be shown with English subtitles.
SPONSORS
The film and after-party are sponsored by the UMD Department of World Languages and Cultures, the UMD Alworth Institute, The American Association of Teachers of German, West Theater, and Wussow's Concert Cafe.
